Hello, marketeers!
Do you know what I’m referring to when I say, ‘Ya gotta see the baby!’?
If you’re at the start of your publishing journey, or even if you have published a considerable number of books already, at some point, your newest book baby will be born. There will be a time when you’re bound to embrace a newfound ‘bibliohood’ of mixed emotions (and possibly sleepless nights). So, to make your life as easy as possible, here are my top five tips for showing off your gorgeous bundle of joy to the world …
Get on the socials and post photos / videos of your new book baby! Its birth (eek, I mean, unboxing), resting poses, in-action shots, in a new outfit, on its first road trip, on its first playdate with other book babies … (think literally, or laterally, but maybe not so literally!)
Share your brag book! That is, create nice graphics with quotes from reviewers, and re-post links from any media coverage you’ve received. Be sure to tag and thank them for their support.
Cherish the moments in a keepsake album - include your media testimonials and features in your media kit on your website.
Plan a virtual ‘meet the book baby’ party. An online event to celebrate its release can be done via a Facebook / Instagram Live or Twitter Q&A session.
Plan a real life ‘meet the book baby’ event (or a few). Take your book on outings to bookshops, libraries, schools and day care centres, literary and bookish events, or someplace niche where it can be introduced to its target audience.
There is plenty of room to be imaginative and creative when showing off your book baby (or rather, gently promoting your work). Be proud of your ‘achievement’, because your supporters certainly are.
What other ways do you celebrate a new book baby?
