Hello, marketeers!
Hope you’ve been well. I’m back from a ‘Substack’ break with school holidays, book campaigns, competitions and what not side-tracking my attention away from here. But what’s great is that I’ve continued to connect with amazing kidlit folk through reading, following, sharing and interacting with their wonderful musings and achievements.
So, today, I thought I’d share some great reading recommendations and tips on how you can connect and collaborate with others just like you! But how is that beneficial? Well, guess what? Joining forces with your fellow creators is one of your best marketing resources! How good is that?!
First up: the recommendations …
I’m newly subscribed to
newsletter - she is a kidlit writer, illustrator and editor with fascinating writing insights, handy hints and opportunities for free mentorship! Speaking of recommendations, Melissa-Jane has shared an awesome resource with a list of accounts you might like to follow on Substack. You’ll find most of these already on Melissa-Jane’s list, but these are the accounts I’m currently enjoying*:

Now, how to cross-promote with others like you …
Identify, follow and interact with other kidlit creators on social media, and send them personalised emails or DMs with a specific message about who you are, what you like about their work and how you’d like to work together.
Give each other ‘shout outs’ on social media! There are new and several ways to double the reach and collaborate posts, including giving each other content, and tagging each other and sharing joint content.
Conduct a virtual take-over. Invite other creators to create multi-post take-overs on your account, or join others to feature on another account, such as a podcast cross-over or reels on Instagram. A fun idea is to have the audience ‘hunt for clues’ on each account to ultimately win a prize.
Write guest post articles or Q&As for popular blogs (or Substack newsletters!). Offer relevant, timely and interesting guest posts to feature at your favourite accounts.
Co-host a live workshop or webinar. You and your writing buddies might like to run a joint session on a particular writing, illustrating or publishing topic, or invite an audience to a Q&A about an event or virtual book launch you’re holding.
Bundling books. Another great way to reach more readers is to bundle your books together for a giveaway, given they subscribe to all creators involved.
Got any other ways to collaborate? Feel free to leave a comment.
Don’t you just love the way our kidlit industry supports each other?! I do! We’re such a creative and generous bunch, aren’t we!!
